Eccentric Gear Stamping Presses Designed To Meet Varied Load and Accuracy Requirements
The MPE2 and MPE4 eccentric gear
mechanical presses, designed and built by PTC (Press Technology Corporation),
are configured to optimize stamping operations that have varying load and
accuracy requirements, including blanking, forming, drawing, deep draw,
progressive dies and transfer dies. The presses offer a tonnage range of 300 to
2000 tons, and are available in bed sizes from 72" X 48" to 240" X 108". Stroke
length is 6" to 48".
On presses with a bed size larger than 84" (left to right), a four-plate crown option with four gears (instead of two) provides additional drive support across the entire bed. This minimizes deflection of the gear pin during stamping for improved accuracy. The main gear teeth are spur, helical or herringbone, depending on press speed requirements.
The crown, ram, columns, bolster and base are thermally stress relieved prior to machining, which contributes to long-term accuracy. The reinforced box-type, double bottom design of the ram also serves to minimize deflection under heavy loads.
The MPE2 has a two-point connection in the ram suitable for left to right off-center loads. If front to back off-center loads are expected, a MPE4 with a four-point connection is required.
Complete press control systems (Link Systems Onmilink 5000 or Data Instruments SmartPAC) can include tonnage monitoring, die protection and production statistic reporting.
PTC presses are custom configured to the specific needs of the application, and are operating in over 50 stamping facilities in North America within the automotive, transportation, appliance, furniture, contract stamping and other durable goods industries. Link presses, including blanking link, combination link and draw link models, are also a PTC hallmark.
