Hypertherm has unveiled its new compact plasma
cutting system: the Powermax30, the latest highly portable addition to the
Powermax family, which combines a compact size, low weight, minimal energy
usage, and superior cutting power and quality, the company said. Bruce
Altobelli, Hypertherm's manual team business team leader, performed the very
first cut with the Powermax30 on the show floor.
The Powermax30 is designed for true on-the-job use with an array of operator-friendly features. These include a tapered torch engineered to provide improved arc visibility and flexibility in hard-to-reach locations. The 20 lbs. Powermax30 is compact and portable, yet powerful, capable of cutting up to 3/8-inch (10 mm) and severing up to 1/2-inch (12 mm) metals.
"The new system is designed for applications in the automotive, aviation, steel construction, farming, site maintenance, HVAC fabrication/installation, plumbing, and any other job requiring flexible, on-the-spot metal working," said a company spokesperson. It is available with a carrying case that includes a circle-cutting guide, gloves, system shoulder strap, and additional consumables.
"The plasma technology behind the Powermax30 provides an optimal mix of cut quality, productivity, and operating cost efficiency," the spokesperson said. "It is ideal for manual cutting of mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum across a wide range of thicknesses. The Powermax30 has excellent cut quality, small heat-affected zone, and excellent fine feature cutting. The simple user interface and rapid set-up further add to productivity. The power supply design is manufactured with a reduced number of components.
"Compared to earlier generations of portable plasma systems, the new manual 30 Amp plasma cutting tool is smaller, lighter, and more powerful. An operator can easily carry the 12 x 6.6 x 14 inches (305mm x 168mm x 355mm) wide tool, while efficiently cutting through a maximum 3/8-inch (10 mm) metal, with a speed up to ten times higher than the oxyfuel or other traditional methods using nibblers, snips and cutting wheels. Advanced software design delivers increased re-firing capability on expanded metal, up to three times.
"With its auto-voltage (115/230 V), the Powermax30 combines the convenience of 115 V operation, with the added capacity supported by 230 V input.
"The Powermax30 is equipped with a new torch design. The small-angled retaining cap enhances the visibility of the cut and the ability to access corners. Compared to earlier cap designs, the new one is seven times more resistant to heat and physical abuse. A deflector snaps onto the retaining cap for added protection. It eliminates any chance of nozzle arcing when edge starting. No special care is required, as there are no breakable ceramic torch parts while Hypertherm's patented safety trigger protects against accidental starts.
"The post-flow cooling feature provides longer torch life and greater flexibility in consumable handling. An interrupt feature automatically stops the post-flow cooling for rapid re-firing. Safety interlocks deactivate the torch when consumables are removed. A built-in parts compartment keeps consumables close at hand."
