"Mold & Die
shops desiring speed, rigidity and precision for large mold & die machining
would do well to consider the VB Series machines from Amera Seiki," said Ron
Gauthier, technical sales manager. "The VB Machines are specifically engineered
for high-precision large mold, die and part machining. The machine features
include the heavy duty, cross-roller type ways on the X and Y axes, with highly
rigid, large contact box ways on the Z-axis, contributing to heavy material
removal and precision, fine finish machining."
"The VB machines use heavy Meehanite castings ensuring the strength and vibration dampening required to produce excellent surface finishes," said a spokesperson. "Large diameter, fine pitch, oil chilled, pre-tensioned ballscrews and powerful servo motors ensure accurate positioning, plus Heidenhein scales are offered as an option. High table weight capacities are also highlighted, exceeding 35,000 lbs for our smallest VB machine (model VB-2) thru 50,000 lbs for the largest models.
"The machine's Y-axis ladder type bridge features ways offset (in two planes) for greater rigidity under high X-axis cutting forces, providing a highly stable spindle under all conditions. Its box way Z-axis is a ram type head with a nitrogen over hydraulic counterbalance for smooth and fast axis response, essential for high speed contour machining.
"CT-50 and CT-40, oil-chilled cartridge spindles, may be coupled with a two-speed ZF gearbox or belt driven, dependent upon the customer's choice and application.
"The standard Fanuc 18i MB control (mold/die platform) with the latest alpha i series servo motors and AI NANO HPCC offer high speed, accurate contour machining. The control provides 600 blocks look ahead / 150,000 blocks/min processing. A 1 GB ATA built-in card (Fanuc Data Server) provides mass program storage and Ethernet connectivity. The control also allows for NURBS interpolation of 3D contour mold and die programs.
"Other features include a heavy duty 32-position, dual arm type, bi-directional, random tool pocket ATC with max tool lengths of 14" and tool weights of up to 44 lbs (CT-50). Chip management system consists of twin screw, end discharge conveyors which feed a belt conveyor at the end of the machine. A high-volume flood coolant system, a full machine enclosure (top cover optional) and 300 PSI CTS provide coolant for all application conditions."
