Valenite Offers ValMILL V500 Copy Mills

A new line of ValMILL V500 Copy Mills that offer cutting action and performance characteristics for the types of contouring, peripheral cutting, slotting, drilling and cavity milling required by the die and mold industry, is now available from Valenite. The cutters are available in eight different end mill sizes ranging in diameter from .500 to 1.5 inches and in lengths from 4.07 to 7.44 and five different face mill sizes in diameters from 2 to 6 inches.

Designed for roughing, semi-finishing and finishing operations, the ValMILL V500 Copy Mills utilize either RDMT (top form chipbreaker style) or RDMW round inserts that produce a cutting action that thins the chip allowing the tools to be run at higher feed rates with reduced chatter in any direction. The round insert design also provides clearance, a requirement when milling deep pockets. The larger size round inserts are manufactured with a faceted pattern on the back of the insert that allows for a controlled index to unworn areas on the insert.

The V500 end mills use two inserts on each cutter, and the face mills vary from four to nine inserts depending on diameter size. The inserts are available in two new coated grades for a wide range of work piece materials including carbon and alloy steels, tool and die steels, stainless steels and high-temperature alloys. The VP5040 milling grade is a multi-layer PVD TiAIN/TiN coated grade and the VP5135 is a tough MTCVD multi-layer coated grade of TiN/A1203/TiCN for rough milling and poor machining conditions, according to a company spokesperson.

The inserts are mounted in the end mill bodies with a screw using the advanced TorxPlus® locking mechanism.
