Okuma & Howa Introduces MILLAC 44V VMC for Moldmaking

Okuma & Howa has introduced its MILLAC 44V. Designed for high-speed machining in moldmaking and tool and die applications, the MILLAC 44V combines high speed with sturdy construction. A high-speed silent ball screw with center cooling and a highbred lubrication system deliver rapid traverse at 36,000mm/min (1,417ipm), and cutting speed is 20,000mm/min (787ipm).

The heart of the MILLAC 44V's performance is the 20,000 rpm spindle powered by an 11/18.5kW motor. A cooling unit with inverter control is standard. Tool clamping forces have been advanced to 8,000 N. to help reduce chatter during cutting - even in tough metals. The motor construction is designed for quiet operation and low vibration.

"The machine is equipped with heat-treated box ways that deliver positioning and long life. The compact design helps eliminate overhang and provides for easier access. Attention to detail is evident in the hybrid lubrication system, the ergonomic double door and the convenient control panel," a spokesperson stated.

Flexibility and user friendliness are enhanced by a variety of special software packages geared to specific applications including tool and die, moldmaking, and conventional applications.

Mark Davis, product manager for Okuma & Howa, states, "The MILLAC 44V is a vivid example of using the latest technology to mold traditional quality to individual customer needs. By wedding the latest in mechanical innovation with progressive software design, we're able to literally customize the 44V to the needs of the individual shop owner or manufacturer. The 44V is a primary example of anticipating market demand."
