SLS Process Creates Viable Option For Fast Production Tooling And Manufacturing
When time-to-market is critical, 3D
Systems' Selective Laser Sintering (SLS¨) technology is a solution for complex
tooling inserts for injection molded parts ---- without time-consuming casting,
machining, or CNC programming. The Vanguard si2ª SLS system uses a powdered
metal material called LaserForm ST-100. Complex tools can be ready to use in as
few as 5-10 days through a process that quickly fuses the material together in a
layering procedure. This process is also ideal for creating functional, durable
metal prototypes and parts directly from CAD files.
Tool inserts made with LaserForm ST-100 material are accurate and durable enough to produce over 100,000 plastic parts, depending on molding material. LaserForm ST-100 material's high thermal conductivity results in fast cycle times and increased productivity. The process allows more productivity from the existing skilled labor, and the ability to address complex and short lead-time jobs.
Founded in 1986, 3D Systems provides solid imaging products and solutions that help reduce the time and cost of designing products and facilitate direct and indirect manufacturing. Its systems utilize patented technologies that create physical objects from digital input. These technologies include the SLA (stereolithography), SLS (selective laser sintering), MJM (multi-jet modeling), and the DCM (direct composite manufacturing) product lines.
