O&H Millac1052V Offers Vertical Machine Users Versatility

The Okuma & Howa Millac 1052V vertical machining center offers a solution to shops wanting heavy-duty cutting capacity for large parts such as dies and molds and still expect to produce good results when finishing. The traditional solution was to have one machine dedicated to roughing and one reserved for finishing. According to the company, the 1052V, can do both. The heavy-duty box way construction is designed to absorb high cutting forces. The Z-axis head is supported via a counter balance system centrally located on the head to provide maximum response of the spindle for faster, finer control of the tool.

Heavy Cutting in a 41" Y-Axis Machine

The 41.7" Y-axis of the 1052V (43.3 from spindle center to column) can fit large parts under the spindle. The wide spacing of the boxed ways supports the spindle during high cutting forces. Table travel is 80.7" in X (120" option) and 31.5" in Z, maximum table load is 11,000 lbs., spindle speeds are 6,000 RPM (30HP) with geared head and 10,000 RPM (25HP) integral motor as option. CAT 50 spindle and 36-station tool changer are standard with 'Big Plus' Dual Contact Spindle as option. Rapid traverse is 630 ipm and max cutting speed is 394 ipm.

Dual Purpose Machine

The 1052V can handle both heavy and fine cutting duties with the right options. "The 10,000 RPM spindle and the High Precision Contour Control software are recommended for those customers seeking a dual purpose machine," said a company spokesperson. "These options allow this machine to do an excellent job of first roughing out the work in the shortest amount of time, and then finishing the part in fine detail and high accuracy."

Some additional standard features include the Fanuc 16i-M Series control, all Fanuc motors and drives, 158 gallon coolant tank, high volume chip flushing, table mounted chip auger, large capacity spindle oil temperature control unit, spindle air curtain to keep out contaminants from the spindle bearing, rigid tapping and an automatic lubrication system.

Applications include any large molds or dies, automotive, construction, or any part requiring heavy duty milling or drilling.
