Mikron Introduces High Speed Machining Center
Mikron Bostomatic Corporation's
Mikron XSM 400 is a high-speed machining center offering feed rates up to 80
meters per minute, accelerations up to 2.5 G and spindle speeds of 30,000,
42,000 and 60,000 rpm.
"Developed from the Mikron HSM line of machining centers, the XSM 400 provides exceptional work piece accuracy and superior process reliability," said a company spokesperson. "It delivers excellent machine performance with all types of materials including hardened tools steels, as well as aluminum, copper, graphite and many plastics."
The heart of the XSM 400 is the Mikron Expert System CYCLONE, a proprietary control system designed to enhance performance and reduce lead-time. Based on the proven Heidenhain Atek high performance CNC, the CYCLONE control system allows the user to tune up the milling programs by entering just four parameters on a graphically assisted desktop. According to Mikron, CYCLONE is the first worldwide intelligent process control to independently detect contour changes in the program and automatically adjust the dynamic parameters during the machining process. Optimum machine performance settings for each machining step, from roughing to finishing or for each single cutting tool, can be activated through a manipulation of the trackball.
The CYCLONE system has two central processor units (CPU) with a user interface based on the standard Microsoft¨ Windows¨2000 operating system allowing for integration into an existing network. Tasks are shared between the two processors to achieve faster machining time and increased operating reliability.
Mikron Bostomatic Corporation, a subsidiary of Agie Charmilles Group, provides sales, service, parts and technical support of Mikron and Bostomatic high speed, high performance machining centers, with travel ranges from 15 through 54 inches, spindle speeds up to 60,000 rpm, in a multitude of three-, four- and five, axis configurations for die/mold, job shop, aerospace, medical, electronic and other high precision applications. Headquartered just west of Boston, the company maintains fully equipped, state-of-the-art technology centers in Holliston, Mass., and Lincolnshire, Ill., for customer demonstrations.
