Extended Profile Hydraulic Chuck Developed for Moldmaking Industry

Schunk, Inc., has introduced a new model chuck to its line of Tendo Hydraulic Chucks. The HSK-A long, slim hydraulic chuck was designed for mold and die making, tool manufacturing and other applications where the surfaces to be cut may be out of the reach of shorter shank chucks. Ideal for applications such as deep cavities or other "confined" or deeply contour surfaces, the HSK-A is available to handle tool shanks from 6mm to 20mm, with mounting shank lengths of 150mm to 200mm.

The HSK-A is an addition to Schunk's extensive line of Tendo Hydraulic Chucks providing precise run-out accuracy, high clamping forces and torque transmission, and the capability to run accurately and safely at extreme cutting speeds. Clamping forces up to 23,000 lbs. or more assure safety at all speeds-balances over 15,000 rpm with special balancing available up to 25,000 rpm.

Tendo Hydraulic Chucks employ a powerful shank-holding system. An internal worm-driven piston forces hydraulic fluid into a cavity surrounding a steel sleeve. The high pressure uniformly forces the sleeve around a cutting tool shank. Cutting tools are held with great concentricity. The clamping pressure displaces oil or grease into grooves in the sleeve. Clamping areas remain almost dry. The high torque transmission is guaranteed at all running speeds. The hydraulic system also absorbs vibrations inherent in the cutting or grinding processes. The results are high T.I.R. accuracy and repeatability <3 microns (0.00012"); tool life extended up to four times; improved surface quality of machined parts.

Tendo Hydraulic Chucks offer precise toolholding solutions for almost every manufacturing process. Chuck models are available for: high-speed and fine milling; heavy-duty milling; wood machining; HSC-parallel-stroke milling; internal grinding; boring and chamfering; precision reaming; precision tool grinding. With Tendo slotted, coolant-proof intermediate sleeves, different shank diameters can be handled with the same chuck for additional application versatility and tooling cost savings. And all Tendo Hydraulic Chucks are completely closed systems that operate free of dirt, coolants, lubricants, and chips to assure low maintenance and high operating lifetime.
