Metal/Graphite Machining System Provides Greater Power and Versatility

With a 30,000 or 40,000 rpm HSK40E spindle, the Bostomatic HPM-810G mold and die machining system offers the precision, power, speed, and versatility to produce a range of graphite and hard-steel parts. For metal cutting only, the HPM-810 can be equipped with a 34 hp 20,000 rpm HSK63A spindle or a 20 hp 42,000 rpm spindle, as well as with a high-precision fourth axis. Both versions feature all new digital servos, a 20- or optional 40-tool-capacity ATC, and an optional System 3R® Workmaster robot.

Despite its small footprint, the HPM-810G has a 32" x 16" x 20" working cube. When outfitted for graphite machining, the HPM-810G is fully enclosed and sealed to prevent the escape of graphite dust. All way systems are pressurized to prevent the entry of graphite dust. A bolster-mounted air flow system blasts air across the spindle taper, tool, and work piece, forcing entrained dust toward an exhaust tray mounted at the front of the table.

Control performance, a proprietary Gain Switching system, and high-speed spindles combine to ensure exceptional surface finishes and eliminate hand finishing. Therm-a-trol™ provides automatic 3-D compensation for spindle growth, stabilizing its position. The result is up to 80% less growth than with conventional spindle refrigeration systems.

The machine's control - the 3200X - has a processing speed of up to 1100 blocks per second for hesitation-free contouring on the HPM-810 at feed rates up to 400 ipm (787 ipm rapid traverse) on even the most data-intensive part programs. Standard contour-optimization software operates in real time and outperforms "look-ahead" systems that preprocess data. Bostomatic's proprietary Advanced Motion Control technology provides unmatched path accuracy for tighter tolerances at higher feed rates. Innovative new CNC features include faster microprocessors and software, larger hard drives, a new flat-panel display, 3-D cutter compensation, Advanced Tool Measurement, Therm-a-trol™, and a remote alert system.
