Chevalier Introduces New Horizontal Boring and Milling Machine

"Chevalier Machinery continues its expansion in the large part machining market with the introduction of its FBM series horizontal boring and milling machine," said a spokesperson. "Designed for high performance, production batch machining of large workpieces with complex fixturing for aerospace, automotive, power generation and heavy construction, the machine features a generous work envelope and a 50-taper cartridge type air purged spindle that reaches speeds up to 4,000 RPM. The machine can handle workpieces measuring 39 x 126 inches weighing up to 7,116 lbs. For long cycle production with minimum non-cutting time, the machine is equipped with a chain type 60 tool magazine (opt 30 or 40 tool changer) large volume coolant tank and a dual chip channel with auger type chip conveyor in each side for efficient chip removal. The tool changer accommodates tools up to 13.75" long, 7.87 in diameter and weighing up to 55 lbs.

"Also standard are ZF gearbox, rigid tapping capability, automatic air blast through spindle, heat exchanger, spindle cooling system, hydraulic tool changer, chips tray, automatic lubrication system and RS232 interface. The three axes employ seven NSK P4 double hydraulic bearings and can be fitted with Heidenhain linear scales for accuracies up to 0.001 mm. Large 80 mm, hollow ballscrews with coolant circulation and temperature sensor eliminates thermal buildup during heavy duty, extended machining cycles. The massive table is supported by extra wide box ways (four on small models and six in bigger sizes) which have been hardened, precision ground and coated with Guarniflon media, providing exceptional wear resistance even when machining heavy loads weighing up to 8,800 lbs. Advanced traveling tailstock design upgrades rigidity and stability during heavy duty boring operations. Options offered are CNC and manual 4th axis rotary table, 3-axis linear scale, high semi-enclosed splash guard and 30/40 tool ATC."
