"Totaling
12 axes on a turning lathe, this new model Vturn-X200 will be launched at coming
TIMTOS 2009 as a milestone for multi-tasking machine tools in Victor Taichung's
family," said a Fortune spokesperson. "Controlled by Fanuc's latest controller,
this twin-spindle lathe includes a rotary tool-spindle (B-axis) which swivels at
+115-degrees to -110-degrees at maximum speed 12,000 RPM for arbitrary angle
milling along the workpieces clamped by the first spindle or second spindle
chucks to reveal a versatile application by a single machine set-up.
"Twin spindles are both equipped with built-in motor, 8-inch chuck and C-axis indexing for turning and milling operations. The conventional upper turret is upgraded with a rotary tool-spindle (B-axis), which can be used as a conventional turret (with tool in spindle clamped by coupling) or as a milling head. With ATC design and 40 tool magazine, this tool spindle moves not only along the X-axis but also Y-axis by another ballscrew inside the carriage. This new model Vturn-X200 can be considered a machining center for multi-tasking machining.
"Five-axis simultaneous machining (X/Y/Z/C/B) is implemented by Fanuc control model 31i-A5. One extra monitor is included on the control panel to display more information on the machine status during the machine operation. To enhance the turning capability, a lower turret is included so two operations can be simultaneously completed by twin spindles and this lower turret also offers the balance cutting with the upper tool-spindle. In addition, this lower turret facilitates the continuous turning during the tool changeover on the upper tool-spindle to reduce the overall cycle time. Facing upwards to the centerline, the turret disk can be used in the first and second spindles and the 9-station tool design skillfully extends the turning length on the second spindle."
Technical layout:
3 spindles: first (left), second (right) and tool-spindle (on B-axis).
12 axes: [X1, Y1, Z1, B, C1, X2, Z2, C2] + [E] (for second spindle movement) + three axes [moving ATC, tool magazine, lower turret].
