DMG
introduces the new DMC 55 H ECO horizontal machining center. "The new horizontal
machining center DMC 55 H ECO is designed for cost-conscious yet performance
orientated users throughout the world," said a DMG spokesperson.
"The machining compartment is easily accessible with wide doors. The 22.0 in. x 23.6 in. x 23.6 in. traverse area of the X, Y and Z axis is also generously dimensioned, the pallets having a 15.7 in. x 15.7 in. clamping surface. In addition to the 360-degree rotary table in the standard version, an optional NC rotary indexing table offering 1,143.2 ft. lb. of torque is available. Positioning times of 0.8 and 1.2 sec. at 90 or 180 degrees (NC indexing table) add to the reduction of machining times. The maximum load of up to 1,102.3 lb. allows use of heavy workpieces and sturdy clamping means," said a DMG spokesperson.
"As soon as the workpieces have reached their machining position through the fast-acting pallet changer, the DMC 55 H ECO is ready to perform. Here, the 45-position wheel magazine offers high productivity with chip-to-chip times of only 3.9 sec. The fast 12,000 RPM motor spindle, with its narrow design can also plunge deep into the workpiece, if needed, and master complex chip removal tasks with its 81.1 ft. lbs. of torque. Rapid traverse speeds of 1,968.5 IPM and dynamic acceleration values of 196.9 in./sec.2 in all axes ensure short ancillary times."
"The thermo-stable basis of the DMC 55 H ECO is its duoBLOCK concept, comprising the machine bed with its 3-point support and the solid rear wall. Precise milling can be performed with the high-quality linear guides (ball guides) and the ball spindles with internal cooling, that improve the thermal behavior of the machine. The new design is enhanced by the steep axis covers and slanted sections of the machining compartment favoring an optimal chip flow, the patented steel cover with scissor guides in the X/Y direction, as well as the single-section steel covers of the Z-axis in the spindle area.
"For the CNC control system on the new DMC 55 H ECO, DMG has decided to incorporate the Siemens 810 D powerline. The Siemens control system integrated in the DMG panel that includes a 15-inch TFT monitor and full-size keyboard, offers a new well-arranged screen design together with extensive functions. The control offers more program memory and a greater number of definable zero points and parameters. The control also has an Ethernet interface and compatibility with compact flash memory cards to ensure fast data exchange as well as short make-ready and set-up times.
"For more complex programming tasks, especially in the shopfloor, the control system can be complemented by options such as outer surface interpolation or the graphic 3D software ShopMill. In the workshop, ShopMill offers a fast way from the drawing to the finished workpiece. It also provides comprehensive tool management, the graphics assisting set-up mode and also graphics assisted diagnostic functionality.
"The DMC 55 H ECO not only offers software related options. In addition to the optional NC indexing table mentioned, an integrated 18,000 RPM SK 40 motor spindle can be adapted. Further options include direct path measuring systems, measuring probes for the in-process control, a mechanical tool breakage detector as well as (for instance) a 'Production Package' comprising a 259.0 gal. coolant system, a paper band filter, a 580 PSI internal coolant supply system (6.1 gal./min. through the spindle center), a ceiling or machining compartment rinsing system and a rotating inspection window," said the spokesperson.
