REM Sales has introduced a new Tsugami automatic
lathe that is designed for speed, flexibility, and accuracy. The "TMB2" is
suitable for long, complex workpieces with up to 2.0" diameters, such as those
produced in the medical, aviation, and automotive industries.
"Its flexibility is a boon to shops that are producing small to medium part runs; users can change from job-to-job quickly with the TMB2," said Jeff Boulden, REM Sales' marketing manager.
"In essence, the TMB2 is a versatile multi-axis lathe and a robust 5-axis machining center," said a company spokesperson. "It features an automatic tool changer that can hold up to 118 tools (60 tools standard). Further, the front turret holds up to 16 tools.
"Other standard features include a high output 7.5-Hp tool spindle motor supporting machining center-like, heavy-duty milling on a wide range of materials. Because the motor is built-in, it provides quick, 2.5-second acceleration and deceleration rates - half the time of a conventional tool spindle. Additionally, the main spindle offers 10,000-RPM and 210 degrees of B-axis rotation in .001-degree increments. Both the main and sub-spindle have full rotary C axes.
"With many stationary and live tools at the TMB2's disposal and multiple axes at work, most parts can be completely machined in one setup from its 2.0" capacity bar. The TMB2 offers a storehouse of operations: turning, milling, drilling, threading, tapping, boring, thread whirling, hobbing, polygon milling, rigid tapping in all planes, and interpolation in linear, polar, cylindrical, and inclined planes.
"Along with flexibility and speed, part accuracy is also a hallmark of the TMB2 for three primary reasons - the ability to completely machine parts in one setup, an oil temperature controller that helps maintain thermal stability, and advanced Fanuc CNC technology with ultra-precise positioning capability."
