The Lens Saver Division of International Crystal
Laboratories (ICL) is offering a full color catalog describing its patented lens
mounts that enable the use of Lens SaversŪ in all major laser cutting and
welding systems, including Amada, Bystronic, Cincinnati, Mazak, Mitsubishi and
Trumpf, as well as in Precitec and Laser Mech cutting heads.
Lens Savers windows are disposable shields that protect CO2 and YAG laser optics from spatter damage. ICL has developed and manufactured an entire line of patented lens mounts and adapters (US Patent No. 5,898,522) that facilitate the use of Lens Savers windows with most CO2 laser systems.
"Lens Savers are placed in front of the focusing lens in CO2 lasers and thereby prevent damage to expensive focusing lenses which would otherwise absorb the brunt of the sparks, smoke and particles (spatter) which are unleashed when thousands of watts of laser power bombard a plate during laser cutting or welding," explained a company spokesperson. "This not only saves money by alleviating the frequent replacement of focusing lenses, but it also prevents catastrophic failure that could damage the delicate internal optical components of the laser. The patented Lens Savers system works with high pressure assist gases."
Lens Savers are typically less than 10% of the cost of a focusing lens and, according to the company, laser operators using Lens Savers experience 40% to 50% annual savings in total optics costs. "More important perhaps, shops with CO2 lasers using Lens Savers windows can avoid failures which occur when a focusing lens melts from absorbing excess energy due to spatter damage. Just one such catastrophic failure can cost a shop several weeks of down time and thousands of dollars in repair costs," the spokesperson said.
The catalog supplies complete and detailed lists of the products available from the company, including lens mounts by laser system, manufacturer and lens diameter. ICL also offers custom lens mounts and adapters for almost any laser system, which can usually be designed and fabricated within four to six weeks.
