Lambda Physik Introduces USP Technology for Gator and PowerGator UV Series
Lambda Physik introduces USP
Technology (Uniform Side Pumping Technology) for its Gator and PowerGator Series
of diode pumped solid-state lasers. According to Lambda Physik, USP Technology
guarantees the long-term stability of the laser beam intensity distribution. The
beam parameters stay constant throughout the lifetime of the laser head, which
greatly simplifies process control and allows for excellent stability of the
micromachining process.
PowerGator 355-10, the latest in the series of industrial-grade DPSS lasers is also equipped with USP Technology. Delivering 10 Watt average power and >100 GW/cm2 peak power intensity, the system microfabricates high aspect-ratio features in hard materials over 1 mm thick.
"Ultraviolet light at 355 nm, with short 15 ns pulses, improves plasma formation for high aspect ratio microfabrication," said a company spokesperson. "These features reduce heat-induced effects, microcracking and redeposition of material, yielding higher quality surfaces. This is a critical advantage for manufacturing of components of difficult to machine materials that require drilling and cutting of micron size features. High beam quality (TEM00 / near-diffraction-limited) allows excellent focusability for feature sizes below 10 microns, critical for a number of micromachining applications."
"Application results show this short nanosecond pulsed, high peak power laser produces micron-finish features in a wide range of very narrow line widths in hard materials including ceramics, silicon, metal alloys and polymers," said a company spokesperson. "The PowerGator is also available at 1064 nm (IR), 532 nm (Green) and 355 (UV) to allow further process optimization by matching the spectral absorption characteristics of the material."
The Gator and PowerGator lasers are suited to OEM and end user applications. The lasers feature a hermetically sealed laser head, RS 232 function control for hands-free operation and remote/removable supply unit.
