Bystronic Introduces Bystar Flexible Laser Cutting System

Bystronic's Bystar laser cutting system incorporates a number of technological advancements that  are claimed to provide increased flexibility, productivity and a higher cut consistency. "New AC direct drives offer positioning accuracy at high acceleration rates for more profitable machining of intricately shaped parts and contours," said a Bystronic spokesperson. "Advanced CNC technology provides rapid, high-speed processors, standard interfaces, and a flexible, three-level structure. Higher productivity and increased range of production are achieved through higher laser power, adaptive optics and piercing on the fly. Higher laser power also increases the cutting speed and reduces the cutting gas consumption - an important economic factor when cutting stainless steel or aluminum. Fast start-up assures almost immediate availability for use."

With the CNC rotary axis tubes and profiles up to 315 mm in diameter can be processed. "Highly dynamic Z-axis ensures rapid cutting over the edges and there is the capability for volume processing of 3D workpieces," said the company spokesperson. "Tubes up to 140 mm in diameter and a length exceeding the machine's cutting range may be fed automatically through the chuck for machining. A tailstock with pneumatic, axial clamping device ensures proper support of long tubes. Cutting bridge layout offers optimal operator access for loading and unloading."

Bystar is available with a choice of three cutting table sizes and a 3,000- or 4,000-waft Bystronic-built energy and cost-savings C02 laser resonator. It offers its own graphically interactive programming system. "Bysoft is a powerful, user-friendly application for programming of single parts through automatic nesting of cutting plans with high performance 32 bit common cut algorithm and 'Technology Wizard' for automatic assignment of element technology, including piercing, lead-in/lead-out, CW or pulse, and 'auto import' for importing several CAD files simultaneously," said the spokesperson.

"Productivity is further increased with the addition of shuttle tables. Modular machine design makes it possible to expand the Bystar to a fully automated FMS laser cell by adding the Bytrans automatic sheet loading/unloading/part sorting system and a storage tower for automatic unloading of stored flat sheet material and loading of finished cut parts," stated the spokesperson.
