Amada Introduces Quattro 1000-Watt Laser

Amada's Quattro combines the latest design and development in machine, CNC, and laser resonator technologies. It features a compact design, low operational and maintenance costs, ease of operation, and higher performance-per-cost ratio. "The Quattro is ideally suited for prototype and small lot production manufacturing environments. When used in combination with Amada's stamping press line, users can expect the perfect solution for several processing challenges, particularly for R&D and small to mid-range volume production applications," said a company spokesman.

Designed as a turnkey package, the Quattro has a small footprint. Its 4' by 4' table can process a variety of materials, including mild steel, stainless, and aluminum; as well as non-metals, including plastics, wood, and cloth. The Quattro is a flying optic laser that incorporates a cast frame to dampen ambient vibration for improved cutting results. Its Z-axis is CNC controlled and features a non-contact height sensor. Providing fast positioning speed for machines in its category, the X-and Y-axes travel at 1,181" per minute, while the Z-axis travels at 590" per minute. The Quattro has a repeatable positioning accuracy of ±0.002".

The Quattro's laser automatically calibrates itself during power-up and compensates for any gradual deterioration in internal optics. This provides predictable and repeatable cutting parameters.  Equipped with Amada's AP100-US 3.0 and WinCAD programming software package, the Quattro allows users to import and export DXF and IGES files. Its part viewer feature allows machine operators to easily and quickly locate and retrieve parts and sheets. A Fanuc 16Oil CNC controls laser operations. The control monitor clearly displays the cutting data library, axis position, feed rate, executed and stored programs, as well as machine diagnostics for problem solving.
