Kurt to Exhibit New Chipmunk Metal Compactor Briquettor

Kurt Manufacturing will exhibit its new 45 metric ton Chipmunk metal compactor briquettor at IMTS 2008. This new model, along with the recently introduced larger 125 metric ton model, is the most energy efficient, high output systems for compacting aluminum and steel/ductile iron chips, the company said.

"Both Chipmunk models utilize a hydraulically driven infeed auger that separates most unwanted solids from chips prior to the compacting cycle," said a spokesperson. "The Chipmunk system is designed with a unique mechanical kinetic energy drive, making it extremely energy efficient. In comparison to 50 HP and up for hydraulically driven compactor systems, the Chipmunk utilizes only a fraction of the power yet produces up to 50,000 psi compaction force transforming metalworking chips into dense, dry pucks. These pucks are automatically discharged from chute to container ready for shipment to the recycler. A floor tray holds recovered coolant.

"Both Chipmunk models deliver up to 8:1 compaction ratio and reclaim expensive cutting fluids. These Chipmunk systems compact both ferrous and non-ferrous chips into dense 3-1/2 x 1-1/4 inch briquettes. All Chipmunk models utilize minimal floor space (about the size of a small machining center) and eliminate the need for large areas required for scrap storage while increasing the value of scrap.

"Additional operating features of both Chipmunk systems include simple changeover from one chip material to another, programmable controls that allow automated or manual operation, and low mounted hopper for fast and easy off-loading."

"Both Chipmunk models provide an ideal compacting solution for manufacturers eager to reduce the cost and waste of metal scrap," said Steve Kane, Sales Manager for Kurt Manufacturing Company. "With energy and material costs rising dramatically almost on a daily basis, these new Chipmunk models provide an ideal additional profit center. These systems make it cheaper to recycle aluminum than to create new aluminum. These Chipmunk systems also provide solutions to environmental issues generated from scrap and coolants."
