"Shops wanting high rigidity, productivity and
precision in a competitively priced horizontal boring mill should take a look at
the BMC-110 by Johnford," said an Absolute spokesperson. "Absolute Machine
Tools, Inc. offers this 50 taper HBM, which has been designed to meet today's
heavy duty, high accuracy machining requirements. The BMC-110's rigid structure
is key to its performance. This 55,000 lb. machine boasts a Meehanite cast iron
structure and an innovative column and table design.
"The BMC-110 features a moving column for the Z-axis and a moving table for the X-axis only. This design, which is superior to a moving table/fixed column design, allows for maximum rigidity, exceptional accuracy and full support of the table over the complete X-axis travel. The moving column design eliminates the need for outriggers or outboard supportive ways to support high table loads. The X-axis is fully supported by the base with absolutely no overhang of the table.
"The machine features precision ground and induction hardened box ways in X, Y and Z. All mating surfaces are coated with Turcite-B and hand scraped for fit. The ways are force lubricated via a pressurized automatic oil lubrication system. Accurate positioning is carried out by large (2.5") diameter, pre-tensioned ballscrews and powerful servomotors. Accuracy is ensured by the standard Heidenhain linear scales in all linear axes.
"The 110 mm (4.33 in.) quill is made from chrome-moly steel alloy. The spindle and sleeve are nitride hardened and then ground and lapped for high precision performance. The spindle is supported with the highest class of precision bearings to ensure optimum accuracy and to provide a stable platform for heavy-duty cutting. The 35 HP main motor with two-speed gear drive ensures outstanding cutting performance at any spindle speed. The spindle delivers a maximum speed of 3,000 RPM and the spindle and headstock are oil cooled for minimal thermal growth.
"An impressive list of standard features includes a heavy duty, 60-tool, arm-type ATC that is stand alone and separated from the machine for easy maintenance, a chip removal system consisting of a screw type conveyor between the table and column that discharges into a caterpillar type conveyor on the left side of the machine, a high volume coolant system and tall type table guards to contain chips and coolant. In addition, the machine offers a full B-axis rotary table, Heidenhain linear scales and 300 PSI coolant through the spindle. The Fanuc 21iM-B control is standard and is well suited to all types of general machining applications. The Fanuc 18iMB is available for high speed, high accuracy mold and die machining. Both controls feature the new Alpha I servo system with 1,000,000 pulse encoders."
