Quench Press Specialists Manufacture Heat Treating Systems

Quench Press 4-Color.jpg (21300 bytes)Quench Press Specialists has been a leading manufacturer of automated heat treat systems since the early 1980's. These systems, comprised of rotary hearth furnaces, atmosphere systems, quench oil conditioning systems, conveyors, robots and electrical control systems, are designed to heat treat bearings, gears, synchronizer hubs and sleeves, saw blades and other round, flat symmetrical parts. A wide variety of part geometries can be processed on one set of tooling and robot grippers. Extensive electrical control systems provide ease of set-up and monitoring of the heat treat process. Automated systems are available to heat treat parts from 1.75" to 60" O.D. and up to 1000 lbs. Recent standardized systems include a "Mid-Range" system capable of hardening parts from 6" to 18.5" O.D. and up to 220 lbs. Also offered are modular automated heat treat systems for parts from 2" to 10.5" O.D. up to 15 lbs. Typical post heat treat part tolerances of less than 0.001" out of flat and 0.002" TIR are possible. This provides "plug and play" capability for their customers with typical installation and run-off times for this system requiring only 1-3 days. It also provides convenient system mobility in the case of plant reorganization or relocation.

Press quenching provides manufacturers with several major cost savings. Often small increases in machining and heat treat times can eliminate up to 80% of the grinding time required for many free quenched parts. This results in significant savings in grinding machinery, personnel and consumables. Significant cost savings can also be realized through the elimination of grind stock on the parts themselves. Additionally, the automation of the reheat, part transfer, and press quenching operation provides precise control of these variables which can substantially reduce scrapped parts as well as utility usage. Minimal furnace door open times and areas decrease atmosphere gas usage and heating of plant ambient air-conditioned environments adjacent to the machining and grinding equipment. Savings from the use of automated systems incorporating quench presses can provide an attractive payback time.
