The
Aqua-Quench 4000 series, the latest aqueous quenchants from Houghton
International Inc., widens the range of steel products that can be successfully
heat treated using polymer-based technology, the company said. Aqua-Quench 4000
quenchants are designed for low and high hardenability steel products. They also
provide slow cooling rates in the convection phase and flexible quenching speeds
to make them suitable for applications typically limited to oil quenching,
including pistons, forgings, mine shaft supports and other high hardenability
steel products, the company said.
"As a result of formula design Aqua-Quench 4000 aqueous quenchants offer usage and waste treatment advantages over both oil-based and many other water-based quenchants," said a spokesperson. "The quenchants do not cause smoke fumes and fire hazards, and because they use diluted solutions, they produce less sludge and varnish buildup. Aqua-Quench 4000 quenchants cause less equipment and parts corrosion than strictly water-based quenchants and are available in nitrite or nitrite-free corrosion inhibition packages that help protect quench tanks, fixtures, fittings, pipe work and cooling systems.
"Aqua-Quench 4000 products are compatible with most other water-based quenchant technologies, making it possible for manufactures to switch products without changing out the quench tank."
