Carolina Heat Treating Licenses Nitrex Metal

Carolina Commercial Heat Treating, Inc. (CCHT) announces that it has signed a licensing agreement with Nitrex Metal, Inc., one of the world's leaders in the processing of parts that require nitriding. Their NitregŪ technology, currently being used throughout Europe and Canada, is now exclusively available to CCHT customers in the Southeastern United States.

The state-of-the-art furnace, developed over a seventeen-year period by scientists, metallurgists and engineers, contains some of the most sophisticated control systems and technology concepts available. As a result of their diligence in R & D, Nitrex has allowed CCHT to offer to its customers the best processes selected from a database of over 10,000 furnace recipes. Their sophisticated technology can not only duplicate, but also improve upon parts that require ion, plasma, gas and salt nitriding. Control of the white layer and case depth along with negligible distortion on all types of parts and alloys provide the customer with the opportunity to completely finish a part before nitriding and still meet specifications.

A capability of the Nitrex furnace process is its ability to substantially improve corrosion resistance. Parts subjected to this new process can easily surpass over 200 hours of salt-spray testing before any trace of corrosion appears.

First and second-tier automotive suppliers are currently using Nitrex furnaces. The savings opportunities for CCHT customers who manufacture parts for the automotive, trucking and heavy machinery industries are substantial. Other industries that have utilized this new technology include aerospace, tooling, gears, hydraulic pumps, mining, logging, and more.

CCHT is a subsidiary of Gibraltar Steel Corporation of Buffalo, NY, the second largest heat treating organization in the US with 15 plants in the Southeast and Midwest. CCHT has plants in SC, GA, AL, TN, and two in NC and can be accessed through their web site, WWW.CCHT.COM.
