Kennametal Extrude Hone Introduced STORM 360

"Kennametal Extrude Hone introduced its STORM 360 machine, featuring the company's Precision Cleaning Technology, which combines precision cleanliness results with the environmental friendliness of aqueous-based technology," said a Kennametal spokesperson. "The STORM 360, is ideally suited to complement the company's Thermal Energy Method (TEM) S-250 machine.

"Manufactured workpieces must adhere to increasingly more stringent cleanliness requirements. As a result, both the cleanliness and the actual design of a workpiece play a critical role in its overall performance. For those customers who use Kennametal Extrude Hone's low-cost TEM process, post-cleaning may be a necessary next step.

"The intense burst of heat used in the TEM process to deburr and deflash the internal and external surfaces of workpieces leaves behind an oxidized material. If TEM-processed workpieces are not heat treated or plated in a separate process, the workpieces will usually require cleaning.

"The company's latest precision cleaning offering, the STORM 360, is the perfect complement to the TEM S-250 model. Together, these two machines provide a cost-effective solution for lean operations that require rapid deburring and precision cleaning."

STORM 360 Technology
"The STORM 360 incorporates the features of the most advanced solvent degreasing machines, but without the use of potentially harmful solvents," said a spokesperson. "The STORM 360 uses either neutral or acidic chemistry to clean and deoxidize parts once deburred in the TEM S-250 machine.

Wash and rinse solution tanks are located below the cleaning chamber. During cleaning cycles, the solutions are delivered, filtered and re-circulated on a continual basis into the cleaning chamber. The baskets are rotated 360-degrees in the solution as powerful submerged jets purge the parts with fresh solution continually flushing away all soils and chips. The 360-degree rotation of the basket is particularly important when cleaning workpieces that feature blind holes and deep cavities. "Additionally, the STORM 360 combines superior ultrasonic, oscillation and rocking functions to deliver superior cleaning results," said a spokesperson. "In fact, STORM systems typically achieve single digit micron cleanliness levels while Millipore cleanliness levels to 0.02 milligram are obtainable through optional filtration."
