Meister Abrasives Introduces Hybrid Diamond Dressing Tools

Meister Abrasives USA recently held a web conference during which the company introduced hDD Hybrid Diamond Dressing Tools, a new product line based on an advanced bonding technology designed to provide the durability of a metal bond along with the free-cutting porosity comparable to natural vitrified CBN products.

The new bonding technology is based on a proprietary manufacturing process that both mechanically and chemically bonds the diamond particles within the tool to insure that they will be held securely, the company said. As a result, metal posts or 'bridges' that attach to the diamond crystals in the bonding matrix can be slender, allowing for large pores to be naturally distributed between the crystals.

These slender posts are designed to allow the diamond particles to stand out from the bonding matrix for improved cutting. The posts also fracture readily to expose a new layer of diamond abrasive when the first layer has worn down to metal. These properties ensure a high level of cutting performance while eliminating the need for periodic conditioning, which is a requirement with all other types of metal bonds.

Meister Abrasives reports the following advantages to the company's Hybrid Bonded Dressers when compared to standard metal bond dressing tools: porous structure, improved diamond exposure, less bond/wheel interaction, cooler cutting, reduced dressing forces, does not dull the CBN wheel, higher skip dress possible, tool is self sharpening, no conditioning needed, improved grit retention/tool life, properties can be customized and it allows for a more consistent process.
