The most recent innovation from OMAX Corporation is the Terrain Follower, an accessory designed to automatically and accurately cut parts from materials with irregular or warped surfaces without the need for special programming. Featuring simple setup and operation, the Terrain Follower attaches directly to the motorized Z-axis of OMAX JetMachining Centers.
"The OMAX Terrain Follower immediately detects changes in a material's height, allowing the nozzle to automatically make required height adjustments and accurately maintain the required cutting stand off of .06-inch without reducing Z-axis travel," said a spokesperson. "The accessory's ability to adjust to uneven surfaces also eliminates the need for additional programming.
"Extremely versatile and water-resistant, the Terrain Follower can be turned on and off for each piece cut. Further, it remembers stand off heights between power offs and allows independent operation of stand off and collision detection. Users are also able to follow along a material with the collision detection turned off.
"OMAX designed the Terrain Follower to retrofit to the company's unique Tilt-A-Jet nozzle, which allows for virtually zero taper in most materials. Additionally, the accessory is equipped with a collision detector that protects the nozzle and related hardware from damage, as well as a built-in containment guard that reduces nozzle splash and spray during the machining process.
