The 2008 Northeast Shingo Prize Conference

The 2008 Northeast Region Shingo Prize Conference is being held at the University of Massachusetts in Boston, MA, on October 15th and 16th. "It is a unique learning and networking experience and more than 250 manufacturing and other industry professionals are expected to attend to take advantage of everything that is planned," said a spokesperson.

"Any professional interested in lean manufacturing and the Toyota Production System, best practices, eliminating waste from processes, staying competitive in our global economy, challenging for the Shingo Prize and keeping businesses and jobs in the Northeast & Mid-Atlantic United States are encouraged to attend. In addition to the great line up of speakers, there will be a diverse group of participants for attendees to talk to one-on-one, face-to-face in the Community of Lean Lounge. The companies participating range from medical device to defense, OEM's to job shops: Abiomed, Siemens Medical Solutions, Vibco, Z Corporation, Karl Storz Endovision, AccuRounds, MKS Instruments, CBM Industries, Brookfield Engineering and Senior Aerospace Metal Bellows, to name a few.

"This year's conference also includes virtual plant tours of Raytheon IADC and Abiomed and three interactive panel discussions from Hologic, Callaway Golf Ball Operations and Jotul North America, plus a Boston Harbor sunset cruise and an awards presentation banquet. This year, Raytheon IADC, Extrusion Technology and Callaway Golf Ball Operations will be recognized for their achievements in operational excellence in 2007 with Shingo Medallions. The main conference features three keynotes by four lean experts: Jerry Bussell of Medtronic discusses "Community Wide Lean," Joel Ellis of the Missile Defense Agency, Sensors and Ken Veduccio of Raytheon will address "Using Lean for Mission Assurance" and Tom Hartman of Autoliv will share the story of "Yokoten at Autoliv."

Workshop/break out session topics include: "Implementing Lean to Green on the Plant Floor," "Lean Accounting," "Taking Lean Out to Your Supply Base," "Process Centric Leadership: The Missing Key to Lean" and "Sales and Operations Planning at New Balance: A Lean Tool for the Office."
