"Doosan
Infracore's Puma 280LM horizontal turning center powers through heavy and
interrupted cuts in hard-to-machine materials with no sacrifice to precision or
surface finish," said a spokesperson. "With its 12-station, radial BMT turret
and live tooling, the Puma 280LM machines complex geometries in a single
chucking. Its elongated bed accepts parts up to 16.6: diameter and 40.6" long.
Bar capacity is three inches.
"A heavy, strategically ribbed, cast iron bed provides the rigidity to maintain close tolerances in tough cuts. Its true slant bed, a characteristic of all Puma horizontal turning centers, further enhances rigidity, allowing easy access to tools, chucks and work pieces and improving the flow of chips and coolant. Both the saddle and tailstock guideways are located on the same plane to eliminate thermal distortion. Torque tube construction, another Puma characteristic, eliminates torsional stresses associated with heavy cuts. It also provides a through-the-casting conduit for cool air, helping to maintain an even temperature across the entire bed. All Meehanite construction dampens vibrations, while its super-heavy, one-piece design evenly distributes heat and cutting forces.
"Rigidly built, widely spaced, wrap-around guideways are an integral part of the casting. These allow heavier cuts with exceptional precision.
"The Puma 280LM's heavy-duty, 12-station turret BMT provides high rigidity, 0.0005-degree repeatability, longer tool life and mirror finishes. Turret indexing is non-stop bi-directional, with a fast 0.15 sec. next-station index time to keep cycle times to a minimum. A non-lifting turret design prevents chips from reaching the coupling.
"A 30-HP motor drives the spindles at speeds up to 3,500-RPM and generates 461 ft-lbs of torque. The motor is flange mounted on the side of the bed casting, assuring perfect alignment with the headstock. Its gear-less drive is maintenance free, and eliminates vibration for the highest surface finish.
"Standard features include a programmable tailstock with a 3.93-inch diameter quill, a heavy duty, Morse #5 live center and a tool setter that automatically enters tool offsets without the need for skim cuts. A waylube separation system and an oil skimmer deliver waste oil to a separate reservoir, keeping coolant clean and extending the oil's useful life.
"The Fanuc 21iTB controller has an embedded Ethernet function, allowing easy exchange of NC programs, tool offset data and system parameters between the controller and a personal computer."
