SilverHorse Racing, sponsored by Arthur Machinery and ProFORCE Integrated Solutions, recently celebrated its growing manufacturing program. At the recent Tampa Machine Tool Show (TMTS) the team exhibited its #05 Mustang GT development car, which is used for product development and exhibition. Visitors to the event also noticed a "sold" sign on one of the new machines at the show, a Doosan Lynx 220 LM Turn-Mill center. Arthur Machinery aided the team in acquiring its new Doosan machine, which will be used for a variety of turned parts and minimize secondary milling work since the machine has live tooling capability. Although the team originally considered "just" a turning center for its immediate needs, the decision to add "live tooling" to the turning center was an easy one to make given the highly competitive nature of the automotive aftermarket industry and the need to reduce labor costs through the automation that this machine provides. "With a 10" max diameter, 2" thru-bore, and 6,000 RPM spindle, the machine is going to help chew through the team's backlog of parts that customers have been ordering, while offering the high precision that the team demands of its parts and products," said a company spokesperson. Programming the turning center will be FeatureCam 2007 software, provided by ProFORCE Integrated Solutions, one of the team's sponsors. The software has the capability of direct import of solid models and can post the required G-code to not only the team's Doosan, but also to its Milltronics VMC that handles its 3-axis mill work. Driver Marcello Canitano was on hand with ProFORCE's owner Dwight Daniel at the recent American Contract Manufacturer's Convention (AMCON) in Orlando, FL. "The event held at the Orlando convention center is a good way to meet contract manufacturers in a variety of industrial specialties to help solve difficult manufacturing needs," said Mr. Canitano. held at the Omni hotel in Charlotte, NC. Delcam is the parent company of FeatureCAM, PartMaker, PowerMILL, and other high-end manufacturing software solutions. The two-day event gave attendees the chance to see all the new features and benefits of Delcam's software solutions, including keynote presentations by customers, one of which was a presentation by SilverHorse Racing explaining how its team has grown from "just" a race team to a manufacturer and worldwide retailer of aftermarket products for the Ford Mustang. "These products are sold directly to customers, and through a dealer network of almost 50 dealers in three countries on two continents in only our first two years of existence," said Mr. Canitano. With the Spring shows completed, the team will be turning its attention to spooling up its new turning center, racing, and the summer Mustang shows, where they are sponsors of both SuperStangfest at Daytona International Speedway in June, and the Mustang Week event held at Myrtle Beach, SC. Racing events at Daytona and Sebring are also planned, as well as a return to Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama, where the team stretched the legs of the #05 coupe at the 30th anniversary event for the Mustang Club of America last Labor Day weekend.
