Dual Core Cooperation Plan Boosts Machine Tool Production Efficiency

In a period of three months, Taiwan's two leading machine-tool manufacturers, Victor Taichung Machinery Works Co. and Yeong Chin Machinery Co., have enjoyed a 20% reduction in inventories per month because of the execution of the machine-tool dual core collaboration plan dubbed "M Team" according to Fortune International Inc.

The "M Team" plan was launched three months ago by Victor Taichung and Yeong Chin with the participation of 21 satellite component producers, including Harbor Precise Industries Co., Keyarrow (Taiwan) Co. and Derta Machinery Co. Participants in the plan said they have set a goal to reduce the lead time for production by half with a 100% delivery accuracy sometime in 2007, Fortune International reports.

With the assistance of the government-backed Corporate Synergy Development Center (CSD), Victor Taichung and Yeong Chin reported that since September 2006, they have guided in the Toyota Production System (TPS) to elevate product quality, shorten delivery time and reduce production costs.

"Of the participants in the plan, Yeong Chin has achieved the most outstanding performance by adopting an up-down management system," CSD Manager C.J. Chang said. "All the participants in the plan should make a big stride in renovation next year to accelerate the implementation of the plan. The CSD has formed a promotion committee to manage the execution of the plan by convening a meeting every two weeks for making concrete suggestions. The government has promised to invest $153,840 to push up the execution of the plan next year."
