Sandvik Coromant Introduces CoroDrill 880 for Short Hole Drilling
"The CoroDrill 880 features new patent-pending Step Technology that provides cutting force balance, improving both productivity and hole quality," said a company spokesperson. The drill's center insert uses Step Technology to facilitate entrance into the workpiece and balance cutting forces. This enables up to 100% increases in feed rates, cutting the cost per drilled hole in half, according to the spokesperson.
The CoroDrill
880's inserts present four cutting edges and wiper geometry, allowing tight
tolerances to be held. A choice of insert geometries and grades give flexibility
in optimizing performance across a variety of applications and materials. "The
drill's versatility allows it to excel in an array of applications, including
helical interpolation, plunge drilling and boring," said the spokesperson.
Versions of the CoroDrill 880 will be introduced through a series of releases covering diameters from .473" to 2.5" with lengths ranging from 2 to 5 times the diameter.
