Siemens Introduces 840D Solution Line

"For the aerospace, automotive, medical and other high-precision, high-speed and high-accuracy market segments of the machine tool market, the Siemens SINUMERIK 840D solution line is the latest in CNC technology for increasing performance and user productivity," said a Siemens spokesperson. "The SINUMERIK 840D solution line is a universal and flexible CNC system featuring the innovative SINAMICS S120 drives that can be used for up to 31 axes. It is a distributed, scalable, open and interconnecting system, offering a wide range of specialized functions for milling, drilling, turning, grinding and auxiliary materials handling equipment technologies.

"The 840D solution line offers users innovative features that increase productivity on the manufacturing floor, especially the challenging segments of high-speed and five-axis aerospace machining. It is available in both panel- and PC-based versions and is ideal for applications using the most diverse communications technologies. The drives system, under the Siemens brand name 'Drive CLiQ,' provides improved diagnostics and faster drive recognition via the electronic type plate.

"The SINUMERIK 840Di solution line is a fully PC-integrated numerical control system version for up to 20 axes, working together with the new SINAMICS S120 drive system. The control has open hardware and software functions and is ideally suited for users requiring distributed automation solutions with regard to PLC I/Os and drives and/or prefer a fully PC-integrated control system. The SINUMERIK 840Di solution line is used for technological applications performed on machine tools, special-purpose machines, robot systems as well as to retrofit existing CNC machines."
