Motoman Robot Performs as CNC Machine Direct from CAM Using Trupath Controller

"The TruPath CNC controller interfaces directly to any CAM system to quickly and easily create programs for any Motoman robot with no post-processing required," said a spokesperson. "This controller, from Direct Control, Inc., uses a dual-core PC that allows Windows applications (CAD/CAM, etc.) to be run while also performing real-time control of the robot. Providing path and positional accuracy of ± 0.254 mm (± 0.010-inch), TruPath's dynamic look-ahead capability automatically anticipates upcoming curves, stops, acceleration changes and singularities. Using TruPath, the Motoman robot can serve as a low-cost solution for lower tolerance five-axis machining processes, such as milling, drilling, chamfering, trimming, etc. TruPath provides six-axis control which allows it to be used to program six-axis robots to perform spray coating of complex 3D surfaces."
