Mazak Optonics Adds Automation to "Intelligent" HyperGear Laser

Mazak Optonics Corp. has introduced the HyperGear laser cutting system, with the Fab Shop Type-A utilizes the OPTO-PATH Sorting System. With integrated engineering, production information and advanced functions through Mazak's Smart System programming software and e-Soft it allows minimum operator requirements and extended operation, the company said.

"This gives HyperGear one of the most advanced FMS that combine all the benefits of automated setup and valued-added process integration from multiple laser cutting machines along with automated raw material loading and the subsequent unloading," said a company spokesperson. "It also sorts cut parts from scrap skeletons.

"On its own, HyperGear incorporates many intelligent features designed to automatically provide the optimum setup, maintenance notification and fastest cutting speeds for every material type and thickness. As a result, HyperGear enhances any operator's efficiency and customers can experience improved cash flow by processing more parts per working day."

According to Mazak, HyperGear's intelligent functions include:

  • Automatic torch and nozzle changer plus automatic setup of focus lens position, nozzle to material distance and beam adjustments.

  • A next-generation MAZATROL PREview 640 PC Control and Linear Drives, which allow the HyperGear to cut at unmatched speeds with 3G of acceleration, yet with the precision to maintain perfect corners, tight dimensional accuracy and roundness on contours. The unique air-cooled linear motors and stainless, sealed protection covers eliminate the need for costly chillers or bellows.

  • Constant Beam Length and Automatic Beam Mode Adjustment Systems that keep the length and diameter of the beam constant for consistent, high quality cutting anywhere on the table.

  • Quick-change piercing gun. Combined with Mazak software that automatically determines the optimum sheet pierce sequence, the piercing torch provides fast, stable piercing of thick plate while reducing heat build-up than can deform the sheet.

  • The MAZATROL PREview 640 CNC also monitors key cutting conditions to predict failure conditions, prevent them where possible, and minimize recovery time. This feature allows extended hours of unmanned operation and optimum productivity.

  • Nozzle-grinding system that can save costs by enabling the HyperGear to recondition its own nozzles.

"The 4,000W and 2,500W HyperGear can process from the thinnest painted galvanized steel up to one-inch mild steel and comes standard with a 5' x 10' bed," said the spokesperson. "Automated material handling equipment designed for the efficient production processing of sheet metal and plate is also available.

"Designed to meet the daily challenges facing manufacturers, the Fab Shop Type-A provides increased machine utilization rates with minimum labor over extended periods, even when processing a wide variety of material types and thicknesses with varying lot size requirements, including parts requiring tapping and chamfering.

"Combining these outstanding features with advanced material handling and parts sorting systems, such as Material Stockers, Magnetic Sheet Separators, Scrap Removal Forks, Scrap Bins or Conveyors, Multiple Finished Worksheet Tables, a unique 7200 Vacuum Pad Pick-up device and Parts Separation, the system reaches unheard-of production capacities.

"An integral part of the Fab Shop Type A and OPTOPATH System is Mazak's Smart System Software and e-Soft. The Smart System provides NC programming, optimum nesting of parts and auto-programming and FMS activation of any of the 7200 vacuum Pads depending on part profile, to pick up and place only the finished parts, leaving the scrap to be taken away to the scrap bin or conveyor in one step via the scrap fork.

"Mazak e-Soft provides a considerable reduction of maintenance time thanks to maintenance monitoring, maintenance notice, and even remote troubleshooting guidance if the machine goes into an alarm state."
