Shop Floor Automations - Predator Software for Use on Fadal ControlsShop Floor Automations (SFA), the largest distributor and service center for Predator Software Inc., provides innovative ways to communicate to Fadal CNC controls, said a company spokesperson. Prestige Mold Incorporated, in Rancho Cucamonga, CA had a unique need when it came to their DNC requirements. They wanted to send files to the CNC machine's memory at 38,400 baud but when drip feeding a file they wanted to send it at 9,600 baud. They also wanted to loop the program a specific number of times. This sounds easy enough, but the Fadal machines were on the opposite side of the shop from the DNC computer, so they wanted to initiate the commands from the Fadal Control. Prestige Mold worked with Shop Floor Automations, Inc. to come up with an automated solution. Predator DNC was implemented to handle this automation. The result was a system that allowed the operator to type one command at his machine to be use when downloading to memory and another command to type when he wanted to drip feed. On the fly, Predator will send the command to change the baud rate settings in the CNC control to the correct speed. The operator also specifies on the drip feed command how many times he wants to "loop" the file and Predator will send the file the correct number of times. This level of automation made possible by a combination of Predator DNC and the unique capabilities of the Fadal Control.
